We are currently seeking a Software Engineer adept to design, build, and maintain applications that serve our clients in the geospatial community. The candidate selected for this position is expected to utilize software development best practices to build testable and maintainable code for multiple custom applications. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work in one of the on-site offices (Portland OR, Corvallis, OR, or Lexington, KY) or remotely within the United States.


  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, documentation, & testing
  • Develop features across multiple subsystems including collaboration in requirements definition, prototyping, design, coding, testing, and deployment
  • Investigate, analyze, and make recommendations to management regarding technology improvements, upgrades, and modifications
  • Determine and design system specifications & standards
  • Assist in the collection and documentation of user requirements, development of user stories, and estimates
  • Prepare reports, manuals, and other documentation on the status, operation, and maintenance of software
  • Design, develop, and unit test applications in accordance with established standards
  • Package and support deployment of releases
  • Analyze and resolve technical and application problems

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience with Python, preferably with demonstrated experience developing ETLs with geospatial data.
  • Experience working with JavaScript and React, HTML5, and CSS3 in web applications
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript mapping libraries (ArcGIS API for JavaScript, OpenLayers, Leaflet, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of the full suite of Esri technologies, including ArcGIS Enterprise software
  • Proficiency in developing and debugging complex software systems running in Windows and Linux environments
  • Working knowledge of code repositories, such as GitHub, with multi-user branching strategies
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a geographically distributed team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and perform work on time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in the Scrum framework with agile development
  • Working knowledge of Flask and/or Django web frameworks
  • Experience with SQL and an RDBMS such as SQL Server and PostgreSQL
  • Experience with computer science fundamentals and data structures are generally obtained from a Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or related field
