Summary
Our client is a global leader in geospatial content development and intelligence solutions. The research team creates, maintains, and supports critical production systems and automated solutions enabling customers worldwide with fundamental remote-sensing, machine learning, and Geomatics solutions and products on the foundation of high-resolution elevation data. The successful candidate will own the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) research roadmap to maintain and advance our SAR and IFSAR processing expertise. The primary responsibilities of the Sr Research Scientist are to advance capabilities in SAR and IFSAR processing of both our internal STAR systems, including X-band and P-band data as well as satellite-based SAR images via targeted research initiatives. The goal is to enhance the accuracy, function, and commercial opportunity for SAR and IFSAR products, including Machine Learning based feature extraction applications, surveillance, and mapping applications.

Job Responsibilities
Independent research advancing capability to support corporate goals in SAR processing
Proposing and leading research in all SAR-based initiatives, including but not limited to data
improvement, PolSAR applications, InSAR processing including phase unwrapping, GMTI
Troubleshooting and correction of problems with existing SAR and IfSAR processing
algorithms
Processing-based Calibration activities for Intermap’s X-band and P-band radar systems
Proposals and lead researcher initiatives for US-based Federal Agency BAA topics
Collaboration on proposals for SAR (or other) sensor improvements from a design
contribution standpoint
Development for SAR processing advancement, including MATLAB or Python prototypes
Mentor and lead Engineering interns and other employees on related projects and activities

Job Requirements
Experience in digital signal processing, especially SAR signal processing
Experience in algorithm design, prototyping, and model optimization
Strong programming skills (C++, C, MATLAB, Python, or similar)
Digital image processing and computer vision knowledge or experience
Knowledge in coordinate systems and transformations is an asset
InSAR or PolSAR processing experience an asset
SAR-based or Optical image-based feature detection expertise is an asset

Education and Experience
Advanced Degree (MSc or Ph.D.) in a relevant technical field (i.e., Engineering, Science, etc.)
Geomatics or GIS knowledge is an asset
