Job Summary
Our client is a global leader in geospatial content development and intelligence solutions. The research team creates, maintains, and supports critical production systems and automated solutions enabling customers worldwide with fundamental remote-sensing, machine learning, and Geomatics solutions and products on the foundation of high-resolution elevation data. The Manager Research/Data Scientist will own the research and machine-learning product roadmap and mentor the highly scientific and specialized research team.

Job Duties:
Mentor researchers and ML engineers
Own the research and machine learning product roadmap
Create a vision for novel machine learning products
Align stakeholders towards the proposed product vision
Conduct research for ML use cases and applications
Build initial ML prototypes and models
Conduct systematic experiments across multiple models and hyperparameter combinations
Create or augment datasets
Clean, process, analyze and visualize data and model performance
Keep up-to-date with new research literature and state-of-the-art machine learning and deep
learning approaches

Job Requirements:
Complete understanding of machine learning lifecycle from conception to production
Depth and breadth of state-of-the-art approaches in science
Image-based (feature extraction etc.) Machine Learning / Deep Learning
Prior experience in conducting academic or industry research
Creative problem solving
Design and develop ML prototypes and models
Practical and theoretical understanding of machine learning and deep learning concepts,
deployment, and continual improvement of ML products
Mentorship & management of the research team
Program management alongside product and project managers
Geomatics experience a bonus

Education and Experience:
Minimum BSc in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data
Science, or an equivalent technical degree; MSc or Ph.D. preferred
Machine Learning experience required, including Image Segmentation; Geomatics a plus
3-5 years of management experience in a research or engineering environment

Special or Unique Skills:
Python/Octave
SQL
Machine learning: Scikit-learn/Fast.ai / AllenNLP / OpenCV / HuggingFace / etc
Deep learning: TensorFlow / PyTorch / MXNet / JAX / Chainer / etc.
Linux
Cloud: AWS/Azure/GCP
