Salary: $62,315.45 - $113,028.68 Annually

Senior GIS Analyst manages all activities related to the design, development, implementation, and support of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) projects at the Sheriff’s Office, including ArcGIS Server infrastructure, ArcGIS Web Applications, Esri StoryMaps, and Esri Operations Dashboards. The Analyst reports directly to the Information Technology Manager.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties of the Senior GIS Analyst include but are not limited to:

  • Performs complex data analysis using ArcGIS and related extensions/add-ons, relational databases, and other computer software; understands and can apply the capabilities of GIS, databases, and other computer programs to solve complex spatial and relational problems.
  • Maintains layers for Next Generation 911 data compliance. 
  • Designs and implements GIS and relational databases in various formats, including connection strings and ODBC connections.
  • Designs and implements custom applications both for the desktop and the internet.
  • Design project maps and databases.
  • Performs job functions and is proficient with both ArcMap/ArcCatalog and ArcGIS Pro.
  • Conducts data analysis and preparation of documents, data reports, and maps.
  • Ensures that accurate and complete metadata is developed for all data sets and that metadata is distributed with data when requested by outside agencies.
  • Serves as a working project manager for projects and programs.
  • Participates in agency audits as needed.
  • Scopes and reviews the technical work of consultants, contracting agencies, and other organizations as appropriate.
  • Assists with scoping GIS projects.
  • Participates in developing grant proposals that include a GIS or data component.
  • Provides recommendations for project personnel, hardware, software, data, budget, and scheduling.
  • Communicates complex technical issues both verbally and in writing to non-technical GIS users. 
  • Provides technical expertise to appointed agency staff, other agencies, and the public. 
  • Responds to public inquiries with data and information.
  • Coordinates with other staff to develop materials needed for public meetings, workgroups, council meetings, and other meetings as needed. 
  • Prepares and conducts presentations. 


Additional Duties:

Provides and coordinates employee training and support in GIS concepts and data maintenance techniques. 

 

Minimum Education and Training:

Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or related field and two years of experience with Geographic Information Systems while using ArcGIS-related desktop software tools and ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Server online mapping tools. Proficient with database programming languages such as SQL and Python and front-end design languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and various mapping languages is preferred.


Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License.


Physical Demands: 

Position requires the ability to sit and talk or hear for extended periods. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components is also required. Position does not typically require heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying of moderately heavy loads.


Work Environment: 

Work conditions are generally stable. Tasks are performed mostly inside during a 40-hour on-site work week with on-call availability on a rotating basis.
