{"id":191,"date":"2023-03-31T07:13:16","date_gmt":"2023-03-31T07:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/72p.318.myftpupload.com\/?p=191"},"modified":"2026-06-25T04:28:32","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T04:28:32","slug":"recent-employment-trends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/geosearch.com\/market-trends\/recent-employment-trends\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent Employment Trends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>This is a summary of a recent presentation given by Richard Serby of GeoSearch, Inc. at the 2015 GIS in the Rockies Conference.\u00a0 This presentation was focused somewhat on the state of Colorado, however, there are national numbers included as well.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Good News<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Auto sales are up 8.1% (17.5 million) in between 8\/14 \u2013 8\/15<\/li>\n<li>Housing 2.7% increase in between 8\/14 \u2013 8\/15 (Masslive.com)<\/li>\n<li>Unemployment 5.1% \u2013 August 2015 (6.2% \u2013 8\/14)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Unemployment in Perspective<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>National Unemployment: 5.1%<\/li>\n<li>Colorado Unemployment: 4.2%<\/li>\n<li>Denver: 3.8%<\/li>\n<li>Grand Junction: 5.8%<\/li>\n<li>If you do not have a high school diploma: 11.0%<\/li>\n<li>High School Diploma: 7.5%<\/li>\n<li>If you hold an Associate\u2019s Degree: 5.4%<\/li>\n<li>If you hold a Bachelor\u2019s Degree: 4.0%<\/li>\n<li>If you hold a Master\u2019s Degree: 3.4%<\/li>\n<li>If you hold a Doctorate or Professional Degree: 2.3%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Employer Survey<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>58 Employers (U.S.) responded to the survey<\/li>\n<li>58.6% Commercial small to mid-size companies<\/li>\n<li>29.2% City \u2013 County \u2013 State public agencies<\/li>\n<li>1.7 % \u2013 Non-Profit<\/li>\n<li>10.2% \u2013 College \u2013 Universities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Number of Geospatial Employees<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>89.6 % Fewer than 100 geospatial employees<\/li>\n<li>10.4 % more than 100 geospatial employees<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Hiring Plans<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>27.5 % are hiring in 2015<\/li>\n<li>18.9 % Will be hiring in 2016<\/li>\n<li>29.3 % Unsure of hiring in 2016<\/li>\n<li>20.6 % Will not be hiring in 2015 \u2013 2016 \u2013 \u2013<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On the surface this looks like a high number, however, many organizations are cross-training current employees to avoid layoffs &amp;
